SUMMARY
The Young Life College Capernaum Coordinator will be responsible for developing and overseeing the YL ministry on Shepherds College campus. In addition to launching the new ministry, the person will also serve as a Life Skills Coach integrating contact work (relationship-building), club (bi/weekly program), campaigners (discipleship) and camp (service opportunities) into the larger picture. As the Life Skills Coach they will support students and instruct them in Appropriate Independence (i.e. hygiene, health, unexpected behaviors, daily living skills, social interactions, etc.), communicate effectively and positively contribute to the team (i.e. emails, TEAMS, documentation, assessments, reliability, consistency, professionalism, etc.), and maintain living areas (i.e. cleanliness, concerns, supplies, organization, maintenance, training, etc.).
Full Time & On-Call, 3pm-9pm weekdays/7am-9pm weekend options
Schedule Options: Sunday – Thursday or Tuesday - Saturday
YOUNG LIFE ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
10 hours/week Leadership Development — “Equipping leaders, committee and staff” includes key volunteer care, recruiting, team building and training, supervision and vision casting.
- Recruit and train volunteer leaders, adult helpers, and college peer buddies.
- Evaluate and provide opportunities for volunteer leaders to grow in their leadership, in their personal spiritual formation, and in their ministry with Capernaum friends.
- Lead team meetings for planning, direction and training.
- Meet with leaders one-on-one for encouragement and vision.
Resource Development — “Fueling the ministry” includes events, major donor care, public relations (branding) and fundraising.
- Create fundraising document with vision and goals
- Impart vision for the ministry to potential donors.
- Raise personal and ministry funds as directed.
- Speak to civic and church groups to promote and publicize the ministry and needs of Capernaum.
Direct Ministry — “Proclaiming and modeling” includes contact work, club, campaigners, and camp.
- Be active in all three levels of contact work (largely done thru Life Coach portion of job).
- Lead a team to plan and implement YL College Capernaum clubs with excellence.
- Train leaders to plan and implement Campaigners meetings with excellence.
- Lead a team to plan and implement a summer and school-season camping strategy for the ministry.
- Work with surrounding college students and YL College groups toward inclusion of Capernaum friends specific to events, summer and weekend camp opportunities, as appropriate.
- Implement the Leadership Experience program.
Ministry Support — “Taking care of business” includes accounting, administration, communication (internal), data management and strategic plan.
- Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders and donors for area records.
- Provide clear, prompt, appropriate and professional communication to everyone involved in ministry.
- Set yearly strategic ministry plan and initiatives to reach every student; review them on a regular basis.
- Alignment and agreement with the Young Life Faith & Conduct form thru signature and ensuring volunteers understand and sign the form as well.
Supervision and Training
- Monthly meeting with YL supervisor for training and check-in
- YL Capernaum team leader training through online system and with Divisional Coordinator
- Administrative and fundraising trainings, if needed
- Monthly Wisconsin regional staff meeting
LIFE SKILLS COACH ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - 30 hours/week
includes the following. other duties may be assigned:
- Serve as a conduit of Christ’s love for others in an effort to point others to Jesus through our actions and words.
- Oversees all aspects of Student Life for SC students:
- Implement evening programming and supervise leisure time for students (club, campaigners and contact work)
- Pass medications and instruct students in personal medication and health (contact work)
- Provide assistance and hands-on adaptive skill set instruction to students (contact work)
- Administrate the guidelines and policies in the student handbook
- Manage/coach behavioral issues among students and communicate information regarding student behaviors to the student life team, the student’s advisor, and other appropriate personnel (contact work)
- Instruct and assist students with meal planning, preparation, and grocery shopping (contact work)
- Complete required documentation, assessments, and communication
- Facilitate the work of volunteers who interact with students during the evenings (volunteer leader development)
- Coach students related to finances, personal care, and health management (contact work)
- Work closely with other faculty members to ensure that the various components of the program are working in harmony, complementing one another
- Organize, continue, and develop systems in order to maintain consistency, cleanliness, progression, and promote student growth for weekdays and weekends
- Attend faculty/staff meetings, as assigned

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred, but not required; Degree in Education/Special Education is a plus
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is favorable
- Must be an effective communicator, including verbal and written communication
- Must possess strong organizational skills
- Must possess a high level of professionalism, including the ability to maintain confidentiality
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license.

All new employees are required to pass a physical examination, be tested for and be free of TB and be tested for and free of Hepatitis B (or start the Hepatitis B vaccination series), all within the 90 days immediately prior to starting employment. Shepherds assumes payment for the cost of the physical and TB test as described above and will pay the cost of the chest x-ray and reading if one is required as well as any Hepatitis B testing or immunization. All additional costs are assumed by the employee.
