Employment / Transporter/Job Coach
SUMMARY
The Transporter/Job Coach will be responsible for transporting Shepherds College students between school and their field experience assignments and acting as a job coach as necessary for students in their field experience roles. When not transporting students, this individual may provide job coaching or serve as a classroom assistant.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Transporter
- Transport third-year students to and from their field experience sites.
- Provide support and encouragement to the student interns during travel to/from work sites.
- Provide support to specialty major instructors with regards to setting up transportation routes.
- Communicate with worksite supervisors on behalf of the specialty major instructors.
- Pass medication to interns.
Job Coach
- Provide vocational support to interns in the areas of culinary arts and/or horticulture, as needed and within the context of Appropriate Independence™.
- Interact with field experience supervisors for regular updates on student performance, schedule changes, etc.
- Challenge the intern to grow, with special emphasis placed on the six SC character traits – diligence, discernment, initiative, integrity, respect, and responsibility.
- Assist lead instructors in the development of an Individual Support Plans (ISP) for any intern that requires the assistance of a job coach.
- Evaluate student progress in meeting the benchmarks established in his/her ISP.
- Complete assessments and documentation to measure vocational growth and obstacles to success.
Classroom Assistant
- Support classroom instruction methods and procedures.
- Observe and record student behavior in the Behavior Support Plan tracking binder.
- Manage classroom behaviors.
- Facilitate the work of students in small groups.
- Work one-on-one with selected students.
Interactions
- Work effectively with team members.
- Maintain positive and supportive relationships with students, staff, and field experience supervisors.
- Treat each student with respect and dignity.
- Communicate in a courteous and professional manner.
- Participate in trainings and meetings.
- Consistently demonstrate Christ-likeness in actions and words.
Skills/Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving history.
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred.
- Willingness to incorporate teaching methods and procedures of lead instructor.
- Effective communicator, including verbal and written communication.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Possess a high level of professionalism, including the ability to maintain confidentiality.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed above. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. All new employees are required to pass a physical examination, be tested for and be free of TB and be tested for and free of Hepatitis B (or start the Hepatitis B vaccination series), all within the 90 days immediately prior to starting employment. Shepherds assumes payment for the cost of the physical and TB test as described above and will pay the cost of the chest x-ray and reading if one is required as well as any Hepatitis B testing or immunization. All additional costs are assumed by the employee.
