Employment / Maintenance/Custodial Staff
SUMMARY
Is responsible – is legally or ethically accountable for the welfare and/or care of others, has personal accountability to act free from guidance or higher authority and capable of making moral and rational decisions on their own, and is capable of being trusted or depended on based on good judgment.
Is available and dependable – is accessible for use, at hand, understands that it is the job of a domestic / maintenance worker to keep Shepherds clean, safe, and in good working order, therefore having a willingness to come in 24/7 whenever necessary and to work as long as it takes to resolve any safety issue that may arise.
Has adequate work-related knowledge – is familiar with and has an awareness of how things work around campus and the ability to fix them when things do not work properly. Has the ability to keep Shepherds campus clean and safe, and possesses the knowledge to work with and serve others to make their workplace as comfortable as possible.
Schedule/Hours: Full Time; Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following; other duties may be assigned:
- Serve as a conduit of Christ’s love for others in an effort to point others to Jesus through our actions and words.
- Performs janitorial, housekeeping, and laundry duties as scheduled.
- These responsibilities include vacuuming, dusting, cleaning walls, ceilings, floors, windows, window treatments, restrooms, guest housing, carpet care, floor care, and waxing, changing bed linens, laundry, and trash disposal.
- Order, monitor, maintain and inventory supplies, paper goods, cleaning chemicals, and other maintenance items for all departments.
- Assist maintenance in the completion of maintenance requisitions.
- Supervise and direct Federal Work-Study Students in the performance of daily cleaning responsibilities.
- Accepts special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Carries out the "Biblical Responsibilities of Shepherds' Staff" within the context of job duties.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license.

All new employees are required to pass a physical examination, be tested for and be free of TB and be tested for and free of Hepatitis B (or start the Hepatitis B vaccination series), all within the 90 days immediately prior to starting employment. Shepherds assumes payment for the cost of the physical and TB test as described above and will pay the cost of the chest x-ray and reading if one is required as well as any Hepatitis B testing or immunization. All additional costs are assumed by the employee.

Must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Must be able to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
