Called To Make An Impact

Several years ago, a visitor to Shepherds College made an interesting observation after meeting many of our staff: “I think God runs a travel agency out of Shepherds College.” My initial response was, “Huh?” But as she explained further, her remark not only made sense but also highlighted one of the reasons Shepherds College is such a unique and impactful place.

The visitor shared that as she asked each staff member, “What brought you to SC?”, the answer was always along the lines of, “God brought me here,” “God led me here,” or “God called me to Shepherds College.” While her comment about God running a travel agency seemed unusual at first, the notion that every person she met felt a divine calling to serve here was deeply meaningful. It shed light on one of the essential elements that make our staff so influential in the lives of our students—each person has been called to make a difference.

In the fourth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew, we read about Jesus extending a similar call to Simon Peter and his brother Andrew when He said, “Come, follow me.” The brothers immediately accepted the call, becoming the first of Jesus’ disciples. This was no ordinary invitation; it was a call to step out in faith, embrace challenges, and invest fully in God’s work, ultimately transforming the world. Their calling was an opportunity to make a lasting impact—an opportunity of a lifetime.

Much like Peter and Andrew, the staff at Shepherds College are clear examples that when God calls, He also equips. He provides the knowledge, passion, courage, and faith needed to fulfill His purpose.
