Employment / Vice President of Advancement
SUMMARY
The Vice President of Advancement will develop a strategy and team, which includes the President, to meet the fundraising needs of Shepherds, oversee, train and, coordinate the work of all Advancement staff and provide supervision to the Marketing Department.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Serve as a conduit of Christ’s love in an effort to point others to Jesus through actions and words
- Serve on the Shepherds College Lead Team
- Work directly with the President of Shepherds College in the planning, administration, and execution of all fundraising operations
- Oversee, assist in training, and coordinate activities of Advancement Officers
- Assist in development and administration of internal operations of the Advancement Department
- Collaborate with Marketing to prepare all appeals
- Develop itinerary, travel to meetings with donors, and represent and promote Shepherds College across the country
- Promote development programs and capital campaign giving programs to individual donors as well as foundations, churches, and other ministry partners
- Seek out prospective new donors, churches, and partners as well as assist Advancement staff in the same process
- Responsible for all aspects of the promotion and coordination of the college’s Planned Giving Program with a focus on expanding scholarship and endowment funds to ensure financial sustainability for the college including compliance requirements in various states
- Coordinate the management and administration of the Shepherds Foundation Board of Directors in conjunction with the President’s Office
- Serve on board member recruitment committee Advancement Internal Operations
- Establish and coordinate an annual calendar of fund-raising activities and related programs
- Develop and direct balanced funding programs for the needs of the college
- Monitor progress and activities of Advancement staff and establish performance expectations
- Assist VP of Finance in planning, preparing, and monitoring annual Advancement Department budgets Planned Giving
- Primarily responsible for the identification of prospects, effective solicitation, and coordination of planned giving and estate planning opportunities
- Work closely with the President of Shepherds College to coordinate and advance the process of building relationships, communication, presentation, and closing of all planned gift rated donors and prospects including those within the network of supporting churches
- Assist Advancement Officers in the identification of planned giving prospects and presentation of planned giving opportunities to qualified prospects
- Maintain and develop policies and procedures required for effective management of the planned giving program
- Work with the Associate Vice President of Marketing to coordinate and maintain planned giving and estate planning related information including promotional mailings on planned gift opportunities
- Arrange planned giving and estate planning seminars in conjunction with Advancement staff for ministry partner groups and supporting churches Foundation and Grant Support
- Oversee grant writing
- Report grants received to Shepherds Foundation board
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree is required
- Master’s degree and/or fund development experience preferred
- At least five years of specific fund development success along with a background in senior management or para-church required
- Must have demonstrated knowledge and experience in presenting proposals and solicitations for major gifts as well as promoting various types of planned giving arrangements
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver's license.

Shepherds assumes payment for the cost of the physical and TB test as described above and will pay the cost of the chest x-ray and reading if one is required as well as any Hepatitis B testing or immunization. All additional costs are assumed by the employee.
